One of the worst shavers in the history of the modern era November 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok, the title is a bit harsh but there are few qualities that this shaver possesses that makes it a worthwhile purchase. If there is such thing as a de-evolution (product that goes back in time rather than improve), this product is it. br /br /I have tried and owned shavers from Norelco, Braun, Remmington, and Panasonic in the past 23 years (gulp!). Don't worry, my horse and buggy have been traded in for a Hybrid Vehicle. LOL!br /br /The item comes with a charging cord but no base. It is at least accompanied with a carrying case. The shaving head has two foils that flex with contact but do not swivel. The item is not submersible and therefore, it is not a wet/dry shaver.br /br /Operation is quite simple. An on/off switch and a trimmer button give simplicity in design. The handle is ergonomic and light.br /br /The shaver cuts close. Too close that is. My face has been cut on more than one occasion. The contact on my face also causes irritation and burning. I have a better experience dry shaving with a conventional razor. Outside of a less than pleasant shave due to much irritation, the noise is unbearable. It is the noisiest shaver I have ever had a chance to try. Run time on a recharge is about 5-7 days depending upon the density of your beard.br /br /The money you save on the shaver is offset by antiseptic solution and bandages. This is not a good value.br /br /VERDICTbr /br /Two thumbs down. Do your face a favor and avoid this shaver. There are better alternatives out there.br /br /This probably meets the criteria for the worst shaver of all time. br /br /Here is a better alternative for a similar price range:br /Braun Series 1 1-150 Men's Shaver
This shaver is NOISY! October 23, 2008 I totally agree with the other reviewers who said this shaver is noisy. It sounds at least twice as loud as my old Braun -- I wish I had a decibel meter to tell for sure. It is loud enough that I feel the need for earplugs when using it! Also, the on/off switch and the trimmer button have a cheap plastic-y feel to them, and the clear plastic head guard is difficult to remove without popping the entire head off the shaver. This one is going back for a refund. I'll probably get a Braun or Panasonic instead.
An inferior razor September 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When my father was dying at the end of 2006, he decided to do me a favor, and he bought himself a Remington MS-280 Titanium MicroScreen Shaver. After a couple of months it subsequently came to me.br /br /Even when I first got it, I didn't like it. As other reviewers have pointed out, it is a surprisingly noisy shaver. A second problem is that the top that holds the microscreens is poorly constructed, and after a year's use, it started popping off at inconvenient moments. It's getting worse slowly, and I will soon have to dispose of the razor. The third problem I have with it is that the rubber covering for the on/off switch began to crack after about a year, and has now fallen completely off. This has now exposed the inner-workings of the razor to water, meaning that it is no longer washable, which is one of the razor's key features. (Indeed, I stopped washing it when the cracks in the rubber first appeared.)br /br /To say that I am disappointed with this razor would be a major understatement. The razor gave what I would consider to be one year of good service, after which it went into complete decline. At the price that is charged for this razor, it should last more than one year.br /br /Overall, I found this to be an inferior razor, and I highly recommend *AGAINST* buying it.
Much Too Loud June 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Good: shaves real close, does it's job quicklybr /br /Bad: extremely loud (when you get near the ears), feels awkward in hand, must press button very far into handle to activatebr /br /I bought this shaver a week ago and have been using it. I will return it for a refund and try a Braun. My ears have been hurting since I started using this shaver. It gets so loud when I get near the ears, it's too much because I have sensitive hearing. I considered using earplugs but I think that's too much.br /br /I was impressed initially by the speed of the shave and how close it was. I thought it was like the manual shaver initially (like Mach 3) although I know that an electric will never beat a dedicated manual.br /br /The handle feels big and awkward. The power button is awkward to press "On" as you have to press it very far into the handle to make it work.br /br /I have used a Bruan 5416 for almost 10 years now and I'm trying to find something that will work better. This one works better, but I'd also like to keep my hearing for the next 30 years. That won't happen with this unit. Back to Remington it goes.
Horrible! May 16, 2008 I have used Remington electric razors since I started shaving (over 20 years ago). I always purchased the same black razor that always worked great for me. Unfortunately I do not have my last razor to get the model number off of. When I lost my last razor I went to purchase a new one of the same, but they were no longer offered. So I purchased the one that I am reviewing, it appeared to be about the same only updated. This razor is absolutely horrible! It never would cut all of the hairs so i always had to follow up my shaving with a disposable razor to get the rest of the hairs. It would catch and pull a hair every few minutes, which hurt like all hell. The neck trimmer does absolutely nothing. And, not after using this thing for only two months there is a hole in the microscreen. My old microscreens used to last for years. If I had my reciept I would return this thing, but I don't. So, this will be going in the trash. I have no idea what razor to buy now since I have only used one type of razor my while shaving life.
