2 out of 5 stars Works but plastic unit needs work!!   November 2, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I hate scrubbing the shower, but who doesn't. So I thought I'd give it try. The ad says "gets a dirty shower clean in 2 weeks keep a clean shower clean". NOT! Never got the dirty shower clean after a month! But I thought...maybe it's because it's a tub/shower, so it's too much for the unit. So I moved it to our new yet unused stall shower when the master bath remodel was done. I hooked it on the shower head it worked...sorta. Kept the top 1/3 of the shower clean, while the rest got soap scum build up. So I moved it lower. Yep, got the mid part clean, but now the top the bottom have soap scum. *sigh*. Batteries were dead by now the compartment door for the batteries broke when I went to change them out! Grrrr! Cheap plastic! Taped it shut, hoping it'd hold in a wet environment (which it did). Now, the hanger is snapped into place in a plastic loop on the back of the unit...when I went to hang it back up...wouldn't you know it, the loop broke. UGH! br /Overall...cleans well, but only in a small area the unit is cheaply made doesn't stay together for long forcing you to replace the main unit which is expensive! Not worth my $$, so I'm going back to a hand spray!

1 out of 5 stars Poor Design--Will last less than 6 months   May 25, 2008
While it does keep the shower somewhat clean, this product is plagued by a poor design feature that allows battery surfaces to come in contact with cleaning product. Once this happens, the product stops working for good. Three have died on me and all have had the same clear goo on the battery contacts and on the battery lid. The lid slows down the incursion of the chemical into the battery pack, but over time, its location and general cheap construction will allow the battery area to be exposed.br /br /br /Even battery operated toothbrushes are sturdier than this.

3 out of 5 stars Product works great, device is shaky.   May 20, 2008

I bought this last year and was very impressed. So much so that I talked relatives and friends into getting one. I scrubbed the tub and tile and changed my shower curtain and liner. Then I installed my new shower sprayer and religiously pushed the button after I showered - every other day. When I had guests, I'd spray every day after the last shower. Honestly, it kept the whole area clean for about 6 months, and even then I only had to clean up a few hard to reach corners, the soap dish, and the fixtures. I was very pleased. I did notice that I had to change the batteries every other month which didn't make sense. Shouldn't take that much juice to spin the sprayer a dozen or so times a month. But the cost of the batteries, the solution, and then the device seemed worth it not to have to hand spray AND scrub weekly to keep my shower and tub clean. Then it all came crashing to a halt a few weeks ago. The thing just went dead. After reading commments on Amazon, I realize I am not alone. The device is very unreliable. I wrote the manufacturer and complained. Apparently they are aware of the sensitivity of batteries in their product. Here are the suggestions they sent - I copied and pasted: ~Remember to replace the batteries only on a dry unit, before showering or using br /the power sprayer. br /~Also, remove the bottle before attempting to replace the batteries. To remove br /the bottle, carefully hold the unit over the sink, turn it upside down, and lift br /the power sprayer from the bottle. Set the bottle aside. br /~If cleaning solution or water splashes on the batteries or battery compartment br /contacts when the battery door is opened, immediately wipe it dry with a clean br /rag or paper towel. br /~Before replacing with fresh, clean batteries, lightly coat the top and bottom br /tips of all four batteries with petroleum jelly. br /OK, this last part is kind of funny. I had no idea that maintenance would include Vaseline. Anyway, they were very forthcoming and generous in their restitution - sending me a replacement coupon and a refund for some of the solution. I was very impressed with their customer response, and it was within 24 hours of submission. I'll hang the new device, follow the rules, and try again. But if this one dies in a similar fashion, its back to spray bottles for me.

4 out of 5 stars Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner keeps my shower cleaner than I do   May 17, 2008
Pros: easy to use, reuse bottle with cheaper solution, no more soap scumbr /br /Cons: batteries don't last long, SB cleaning solution is expensive, hard to hear beeping, sometimes streaksbr /br /The Bottom Line: If you're not a Martha Stewart type and hate cleaning, this is a product you'll absolutely love. br /br /In my household it is just me and my husband and I hate cleaning. Previously, the shower got cleaned once a month if that so this product was a dream come true for me. We have one of those cheap shower/bath fiberglass units with a textured sliding glass door and the glass doors have always been a pain to clean. The shower doors no longer have soap scum on them but there are streaks from the solution.br /br /My kit came with two bottles of cleaning solution, the unit itself and batteries. I found the instructions easy to follow.br /br /Here's how it works. We use it after every other shower so my husband won't use it for his showers but I'll press the button after my showers. After you shower, press the button and the unit will start beeping (it's hard to hear though) and then you have 15 seconds to close the doors or shower curtain and remove your bath poofs. I usually put our bath poofs on top of the unit itself. The unit will then spray the solution for about 10 seconds and that's it. Your shower gets cleaned. I found that one bottle of solution lasts us about a month and a half.br /br /I believe the main reason that you hear mixed reviews about this product is due to how fanatic you are about cleanliness. You can manually scrub your shower cleaner than the automatic shower unit so if you like your shower very clean then you probably won't like this product. Again, I hate cleaning and I didn't keep a spic-n-span shower prior to purchasing this product. I think if you're in the same boat as I am, you'll love the automatic shower cleaner.br /br /There are times that this unit does leaves streaks behind and other times it's not as noticeable. I'm not sure what causes the streaks... perhaps there's more water on the shower walls when it ran?? Again, I'm not picky about the streaks. So far, I'm loving this product.br /br /The batteries did die on me last week. They were the batteries that came with the unit so maybe it's just that those particular batteries had a short shelf life. I hope the brand new batteries that I just put in last longer than two months.br /br /There is also a little trick that I found that works great for saving money. When you finish a bottle of cleaning solution don't throw the bottle away. Get your pliers out and use them to remove the cap off the end of it. Inside, the cap has plastic teeth on it (kind of like a cough syrup bottle has) that make it impossible to remove by hand but with pliers it is easy enough. Once you get the cap off you can refill it with a cheaper cleaner. I go to the dollar store and buy whatever Everyday Shower Cleaner product they have and I find it does the same job as the expensive Scrubbing Bubbles stuff.br /br /You can find coupons for this product anywhere from $5-10 so keep an eye out. I got mine a couple of months back at [...] and I think it was for $[...] off. You'll find it in the cleaning isle at Walmart.

1 out of 5 stars Poor lifespan and reliability   April 26, 2008
Like many others before me, I would like to warn potential buyers that this product is not even remotely reliable. When it was working, it did a reasonable job. Someone like me who does not have the disciple to clean on a regular basis can use an automatic cleaner such as this one, even if it has a minimal effect, and that it does. But it quit working after about 5 months, which is very poor when you consider that I used it sparingly (maybe once in 4 days). That means it worked for about the contents of one bottle! The dysfunction had nothing to do with batteries, as I tried replacing them with a fresh set of Duracells, to no avail.br /br /The only conclusion I can come to is that it is of mediocre mechanical design, either by intention or otherwise. If you used it every day, there is a good chance it will quit working within 2 months. If you need to buy one of these as often as that, I say it is a WORTHLESS product. Besides, if it is indeed planned obsolescence, then this product has my contempt and deserves yours too. Save your money and do society a favor by putting people like these out of business.
