4 out of 5 stars Great Purchase!   September 25, 2008
Purchased this litter box because we have 2 dogs who like to "help us" keep the litter box clean...this works great to keep them out, but the cover comes off easily, On the other hand, since the cover can be lifted off and replaced so easily, it is a breeze to keep scooped out, being covered also cuts down on the odor and it is spacious...lots of room for Comet Cat!! We used it a few days w/ the cover off ~ just so Comet would have time to get used to it...Another plus ~ Comet is overzealous about "covering" her tracks after using the box, the cover helps to keep everything contained...there has not been any more scattering of litter all over the floor!! A great purchase!!! Worth the $$$

2 out of 5 stars Dont pay Extra For The Stairs   September 9, 2008
Meh. The cats don't use the stairs - they both just jump over the side wall into the litter. They kick litter onto the stairs then pee on the stairs which are a pain to clean. I moved recently and just threw this litter box out - we'll have a fresh start with something more basic. Plusses though - it is HUGE - plenty of room for my big ol Ragdoll kitty.

5 out of 5 stars I've tried them all and this one is the best   August 13, 2008
I've read all these reviews, and I'm mostly appalled by people with more than one cat and only one box who seem to think that cleaning a litter box daily is unacceptable! What kind of cat parents are you?! Did you want a companion animal or a living room accessory? Of course you have to clean a cat box daily! Sheesh, people. I work at a shelter and I see cats brought in because they no longer match the new couch.

I have two of these litter boxes for my four boys--all 16-18 lb. cats. I clean both boxes daily and I've never had a problem with smell. I even have one crazy cat who only pees standing up...which means it hits the inside of the dome and runs down...and I don't have leakage. I use wipes everyday on the inside of the dome for this problem and it keeps it clean. I wash the charcoal filters on occasion and change them once a twice a year. This box is big enough for even the big boys to fit in and stick their heads out.

I love the ramp; it keeps the box area tidy without the sprawl or mess of those old fashioned rectangular boxes and big litter trap pads. These Booda boxes are stylish enough to blend with the furniture in the living room. All of my catsitting friends have bought them also after taking care of my cats while I'm out of town.

There is a trick to cleaning them. I use a dustpan and broom to sweep the ramp and push loose litter into the dustpan. When scooping it works best to start from the middle and scoop outward. I also keep about 3" of litter in the box, and as I said, I use household wet wipes to clean the rims and inside the dome. I have much less mess than traditional boxes, and less litter tracked outside the boxes too.

I belive Booda makes smaller domes too, so make sure you get the big one even for one cat, and if you have multiple cats, you should have multiple boxes. More than two cats to a box can cause problems, and definitely requires daily cleaning!

5 out of 5 stars Best catbox I've ever had or seen   August 13, 2008
I've had several cats and tossing litter out of the box (even those with the curved in tops) has always been a problem. With our latest cat, it's been a nightmare! This is the cat that plays fetch with herself by throwing her toys, she throws litter the same way.

So the box we'd been using for years, though oversized & with a curved lid wasn't cutting it. Within a few days there would be more litter outside the box than in.

I researched a variety of boxes for several months before picking up this one. Now the litter that is tracked (very hairy paws) I can measure in teaspoons, not CUPS - I'm very happy with this. My cat also had never used a fully lidded box before, so I wasn't sure how she would take to it. Luckily after only two days of leaving the lid off she wasn't bothered by the top. The one I bought didn't come with the carbon inset which didn't bother me at all, frankly. That may have helped any shy-new-litter-box issues because of the "skylight" in it.

I too have noticed what seems to me to be irrational complaints by other owners of this box.

-If your box stinks, clean it. A plastic container of any size holding feline urine & feces isn't going to change how said wastes smells. Depending on a piece of carbon or an air freshner to get rid of the smells isn't rational.

-plastic bags tear. If your cat has claws then liners are pretty useless, IMHO.

-and yes - this box is BIG. It's tall, it's round, it takes up a lot of floor space so be prepared for it. You're not going to be able to tuck this beside the toilet, under a coffee table, or in a little 18' nook anywhere.

2 out of 5 stars Good at first, a pain once your cats get used to it...   July 18, 2008

I bought one of these a few months ago with the hope that my two cats would stop flinging litter all over the kitchen. One of them has a tendency to leap out of the box when he's finished his business, while the other digs as if she's on her way to China. We had a normal square covered box at first, but I figured this would solve the problem.

It did, for a while.

Like the other reviewers, however, I do notice that the box needs another wall at the entrance. The box itself is also far too small for two cats and needs to be scooped on a daily basis; even with the odor control panel, it stinks up my apartment (sometimes even when it's scooped daily!). The top of the box does not latch on to the bottom, meaning that with enthusiastic diggers, it gets nudged off the bottom...leading to cat waste outside the box thanks to them backing up against the walls. Even with the litter liners, this thing is a pain.

I'm on my way to get a new box today to replace this one. It's a shame, I had such hope for it!
