Great Scale April 10, 2008 I bought this talking scale for my Mom. She has almost no mechanical ability and coupled with her blindness, it makes it challenging for her to use anything mechanical or electronic.
Before, she had a scale with very large numbers on it but she was no longer able to see it.
She loves this scale. it took her a day or so to figure out what to do, but that is a very short time for her. She says that it says the weight clearly. She has kidney problems too and she now weighs several times a day to ensure she is not retaining water. If it was not easy to use, she'd not be doing that.
Stinks (times 2). March 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased for my Mom. Worked for several months before going kaput. Shipped back to manufacturer per warranty & I'm on the hook for shipping & another $10 handling fee. Weeks pass & it finally returns & functions for about a week when it starts having another nervous breakdown. Destined for the trash heap.
Good device, but a little disappointed February 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This scale does a decent job, but I have several reservations. Like most Talking scales, the speaker is on the bottom pointed at the floor. Makes it difficult to hear the digitized voice. If you are really hard of hearing or have hearing aids that do a particularly good job of amplifying ambient noise then this product in a bathroom (with echoes) is very hard to hear.
Unfortunately, the digitized voice could be clearer and speak more slowly. I am 88 years old and I was hoping I could understand the speaking voice on this scale, but the digitized voice and the speed of the speech makes it a bit hard for me to hear.
I love the idea of this product but I would make the following changes for people in my predicament: 1. Put the speaker in the top center of the scale so it is facing the person standing on it without being blocked by a foot. 2. Slow the cadence of the speaking voice down to allow elderly people to more easily follow the directions and hear the weight result. 3. Since those who are hard of hearing have difficulty hearing higher frequencies, use a male digitized voice or have a switch to alter the voice between male & female.
Talking scales February 8, 2008 It was ready right out of the box. Great voice to give your weight. It shows about 4 lbs. heavier than the old bathroom scales. Some question about its accuracy.
Nice product! December 22, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this scale for my son who is blind. It has a wide and stable platform, a large display and the voice announcement is very clear. Also, the item shipped out very quickly!
