this processor is very fast and easy to install. I changed from the Quad core Q6600 to this unit and I'm much happier with it.

br / I upgraded to this E8500 from a E6750 and the performance increase is noticable.The extra Cache helps a lot in gaming.The cpu runs very cool an is extreamly stable under load.

What can I say, it's a processor rated at a certain speed...and works as described.br /br /Could probably crank it to 4 GHz as others have done. But at this speed, I have no gripes. It shreds everything I throw at it.br /br /Got it running at 30c idle with a Zalman. It may hit 36c every now and then but drops back to 30c like nothing.br /br /Do your self a favor and get a quality aftermarket fan and some Artic Silver.

This CPU has a great cost/performance ratio. While I do not overclock, it runs at 3.17 Ghz on an ASUS P5Q mother board with 4 gigs of CORSAIR DDR2 800 speed ram. While I did not have any problems loading Vista Home Premium, if your verson is not SP-1, then only have 2 gigs of ram onboard at the time of install and do not increase it to 4 gigs until SP-1 installs. Also, the P5Q series of mother boards is very new and while it does take advantage of all of the features of the Intel E8500 CPU, one of the first things you need to do is upgrade the BIOS to the lastest available from ASUS. With these cautions, you will have a blazing fast system that is in a moderate price range.
