The only wheel I will ever buy for any small pet EVER again. There not lying, I have my dwarf hamsters cage RIGHT next to my couch with 2 of these wheels in them and I can have 2 hammies on them at the same time 2 feet away from my face and I never even know. They really are SILENT! And SAFE! I have lost pets to the wire wheels, and anthing they can get there toe through is a potential death trap, get some of these and you will never worry or be kept up all night again!

Also, make sure you get the appropriate size for your pet. I have the 4.5" model for my dwarf hamsters and it it perfect.

I bought a Silent Spinner for my son's two gerbils in December 2005. After two months of use, the piece that connects the axle to the stand broke, making the wheel unusable. I took it back to the pet store where it was purchased, and they replaced it with an identical Silent Spinnner. It's now the end of March, and after two months of use, the new one also broke in the same place. Until the Silent Spinner company develops a more durable axle, I would not recommend this product.

There are two positive features of this product. First, it is safe for gerbils who run quite fast and might be injured by a traditional metal wheel with slots and cross bars. Second, as advertised, the wheel is very quiet when in use. But ultimately, the limited durability makes this product a poor buy.

I own this wheel for my hamster and I have to say it's the best I've owned ever. It IS silent. But here are some tips to get the best use out of it.
1. Make sure the wheel's stand is on top of a layer of bedding on a flat level surface
2. After some time, the wheel will begin to rattle a little. This is because of the loosening between the colored and white part. To fix this, just put tape along that crack all around the wheel (make sure it's tight!)
3. Setting the wheel at a diagonal angle against a corner is sufficient for not letting the wheel move and the sides hitting the side of the cage.

We've gone on our second 12" Silent Spinner Wheel in less than a year. It is fairly silent at first, then gets slowly louder and louder. It's not deafening by any means, nor is it of any real bother. It just isn't the "silent spinner" that is advertised. We use it for our hedgehog (she weighs less than 260 grams) -- and she loves it. My real concern is that the yellow knob on the inside of the wheel continues to loosen and pop off, causing the wheel to slip away from the mount. I'm not sure if it is a design flaw or we just get defective merchandise? It is properly mounted to the side of the cage according to instructions and not obstructed in anyway. Luckily, our hedgie hasn't been hurt by this problem. For the money, I would expect the wheel to be much more durable than it is -- compared to other wheels on the market. The stresses our hedgehog exerts is no more than any other small animal, and the wheel seems to be capable of withstanding much more. I've written an e-mail to customer support at Super Pet to get some answers regarding this issue. Hopefully, if it is a design flaw, they will resolve it. Until then, I would look elsewhere for an exercise wheel. Hope this helps any potential buyers.

My children have had a succession of hamsters over the last year. We bought a Super Pet Silent Spinner for $10. Within 7 weeks the plastic axel cracked beyond repair. Call us stupid or call us sleep-deprived, we returned to the store and purchased another wheel, and another, at six week intervals until one day my husband remarked, "How many of these junky things have we bought?!" We checked our receipts and counted no less than SIX spinners. Each one had cracked in the same place. I wrote a letter to the company's customer service manager. No response. Two weeks later, I called the company and spoke with their customer service manager. She said she'd get back to me by the end of the day. No response. Two weeks later I asked to contact the owner. I got the run around. This is a matter for Consumer Reports. This company clearly knows this product is trash and is perpetrating fraud on the public. I have a vintage 1950s fan which has probably made several trillion rotations in its lifetime without a crack. Our Krups coffee grinder is still going strong after 17 years of daily use. What I'm trying to say is: the technology of spinning is not exactly new or difficult to achieve. Ultimately, this is a matter of product design, the integrity of materials -- and the LACK of integrity of business owners. DO SUPPORT THIS COMPANY. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
