I have had Happy Huts for years with my 2 Green Cheeked Conures. I get the Medium size and they both love to snuggle together inside for a daytime nap, and sleep in it at night. A hut last about a month with my 2 birds, as I toss it once they start to chew it. They wash-up nicely if you need to – I have washed them and tossed them in the dryer for about 10 min to fluff up the fuzzy exterior, then left to air dry. I have found the metal claps are quite often too tight to open and difficult to get around the bars of a bigger cage so I usually toss them. I purchased some sturdier ones from Home Depot and just use those.
Caution: Just a note to be sure and trim any excess threads to avoid your bird getting tangled and injured. I would also recommend throwing away the happy hut once your bird has chewed it, as it could potentially be dangerous for your bird to get stuck inside in an attempt to burrow through a hole. My two conures are 14 and 12 years old, and with some supervision I have had no difficulties with this product.
Our Green-Cheek Conure loves this hut! It is warm and plush. Our Happy Hut usually lasts a year or two if we cover the hanger straps so that they can’t be chewed through. We found that cutting an old hair band is perfect because it is a hollow tube of cloth that can just slip over the hanger before it is attached.
I had been told that conures just loved this thing, so I bought one for my Sun Conure and she did indeed love it. That is until today when we found her hanging from it by a thread wrapped around her neck. She was so scared and was wildly flapping her wings. My husband managed to cut the thread and set her free before any damage was done to her, but I would not ever put one back in her cage again.
My birds won’t go anywhere near these. They are perch sleepers. Make sure your birds like to go inside of things before buying these. I’ve wasted so much money buying them stuff that they don’t use. They don’t even play with their toys. The prefer to play with trash like junk mail paper and paper towel rolls.
We ordered the happy hut to replace an old one that has seen its day. Our bird loves to play peek-a-boo and this is a great place she can hide. The product took longer then expected to arrive but customer support was excellent.
Your Indian Ringneck Parakeets is so cute. Looks like mine except he has a rign around his neck and is not very tame. I’ve been trying to get him to make more noises and stuff, but it’s not been easy. Also, he is only nice to me and not my mom.
