A cage this small is not suitable for rats unless for specialised uses such as nursing care. This cage is too small even for one rat - and for good health rats should be kept in same-sex (or neutered) pairs or groups.
Customer Review: Perfect for Hamsters only
This cage is good for hamsters although they will chew right through the attached food bowl. The wheel is big enough for our fat Teddy Bear Hamsters. It is easy to clean since the wire top comes off of the plastic base. Litter is spilled out easily if it is too deep so it's not the best cage for burrowing animals like gerbils. This cage is NOT good for rats since it is way too small for a grown rat.
