put it in a hamster safe cage or set it up in a glass aquarium with a screen top for ventilation.use bedding at the bottom, CareFresh and Aspen are the best. Don't use Pine, it's too dusty, and don't use Cedar, it contains natural oils that aren't too healthy for any animal.Feed it a quality Hamster food, like Ecotrition or Mazuri. you can also give it carrot, apple, etc.Always have fresh water available.Give it some chew toys since it is a rodent and it's teeth will continuously grow. It needs things to chew on to help trim them down.give it an excercise wheel since they are so active and will highly benefit from the excercise.Give it a place to hide, it will enjoy being able to seek shelter if stressed or tired.

If you acquired your baby hamster from a pet shop then the chances are that he has been fed on dried hamster mixes only. A good commercially packed hamster (complete) mix will provide most of what is needed in the way of nutrients for your hamster. One containing cereals, seeds and nuts. Fresh fruit and vegetable can be added in very small quantities and gradually over a period of time. Small pieces of fruit should be given only as the odd occasional treat, as to much fructose (this is the naturally occurring sugar produced in fruit) will cause diarrhea. This is the last thing you want with a baby hamster. Wash and peel all veg and any fruit thoroughly before feeding. Most are sprayed with pesticides and will upset baby hamster’s tummy. Do not feed any green leaf vegetables. But small amounts of carrots cucumber etc: is ok. Scrambled eggs are beneficial, as is chicken, cheese. Tofu is an ideal food, or treats for hamsters. Tofu is made from coagulated soy milk, which is very beneficial to nursing mum hamsters, and young pups.

Housing
There are a variety of hamster cages available from pet shops. The most common type of hamster cage has a plastic litter tray base type, and a rigid wire top. Make sure it is big enough for your hamster, as your baby hamster grows he needs more space
A cage floor covering is required. Uses preferably kiln dried pine for cage floor covering, never use cedar. Cedar will cause skin and respiratory problems. Cedar wood shavings should "never" be used at all for "any" small animals bedding. Scientific research has shown that the oils (Plicatic acid, a natural wood preservative, and an 'aromatic phenol') found in cedar can be the cause of serious health issues. Most small animals will be quite happy and safe using dust extracted, kiln dried pine wood shavings, and will come to no harm.

Cage Hygiene
Basic cage Hygiene, and cage management, is also important in keeping hamsters. You can do your bit to help, by cleaning the entire cage periodically. Once a week or every 2 weeks max: Remove all bedding / floor covering. Wash base with hot soapy water dry off. (A mild washing up liquid will suffice.) The little part of the cage that he uses for his toilet can be scraped together, with an old paint scraper and lifted out, then replaced, every 2-3 days. It does not need washing every time it is cleared out. Good cage hygiene, good house keeping, a good diet, and you have a happy healthy hamster.

Handling
Handling is also very important; you should start to tame your baby hamster as soon as possible to get him accustomed to your hand, and being handled. Once you have acquired your hamster, let him settle in for 3-4 days. Hamsters are very easy animals to tame because of their inquisitive and curious nature. Baby hamsters can be tamed very quickly.
