Default Tips on taking care of a turtle?

Hi everyone,I just got a new turtle. I need tips in how to take care of it.I only had it for 3 days now. I gave him some turtle food but it does eat it. My turtle is 1 1/2 in to head to tail. I think its a red eared slider turtle? What do I feed it?How much food do i feed it?How many times do I feed it a day ?Does it need to stay in land or water? How do I know how old it is?How do I know if its a male or female? How do you clean it?

You can feed it turtle pellets it will eventualy eat but you must give full spectrum light.Once a day would be fine to feed it , but not to much it will cloud the water. If it is a red ear slider it needs water and a place to bask and a basking light so he or she gets heated up to digetst the food. if its 11/2" it is less than a year old. When it gets larger you will be able to tell if it is male/female by the size of its tail. A filter can clean the tank of cleaning the whole tank.

If its a res and a baby it is likely it will eat mostly live food. they like baby feeder goldfish and crickets and such things. I own two res and mine love to eat thawed frozen vegetables especially green beans.THEY NEED TO EAT IN THE WATER!make sure that all the food is being placed in the water or they cant swallow it.once a day should be fineAgain if it is a res then it is semi-aquatic and needs mostly water and some land with a basking lightyours is just a baby most likely not even a year old.You cant tell the sex until they are older but the males have very long front claws and a longer thicker tail. I hope this helped if not this is a better site for all your questions:www.allexperts.comgo to exotic pets then turtles and ask away!
