1. under tank heater to maintain temperature, or a 60-80 watt lightbulb pointed at the basking spot on a timer. 2. a seperate little tupperware you can wash out easily to feed him in. Turtle poo is very toxic, so the best way to keep your turtle healthy without having to buy a GIANT tank is to not have any poo in there!3. vary his diet by buying an organic salad mix at the supermarket (it lasts a long time)4. try not to handle him. I know its hard, cuz he's so darn cute, but it just stresses him out, and possibly makes you sick. Any time you touch him, the tank or any of the water in there, go give your hands a VERY thorough wash.5. love him enough to dedicate 20 minutes a week cleaning out his tank. (clean filters and change water)6. A reptile UV bulb is absolutely necessary, or else your turtle cannot develop his shell, and he will get very sick and pass away. Although the UV bulbs come with instructions to be changed every 6 months, i generally do it every 5 months, just to be safe.7. With the UV bulb comes algea. Although its not toxic, it allows other bad bacteria to thrive in the tank, so its got to go. Use an old tooth brush to gently take off all the algea from your turtles shell and any thats grown on your tank accessories. If you follow these simple steps, your turtle should live a long long time.p.s. dont let anyone tell you that your little tiny turtle needs a 55 gallon aquarium. For babies, 10 is enough, just make sure you don't compromise on how clean you keep it.
