Default caring for corn snakes; external parasites?

my mom thought it would be okay to bring sticks and grass from outside, into the cage, but we noticed that he began to have small tics or parasites crawling on him. we bathed him in some water and oil to kill off the breathing of the parasites. does that kill most of them? is this a good method? please help!

well, a thick "cooking" oil would be a best bet because of its thickness it has a tendency to smother the ticks, you can also go to your local pet store and get mite medication. mites and ticks are both related and do the same thing, so therefore most mite medication also effects ticks. good luck, corn snakes are great pets, but remember if anything from outside is brought it to the cage make sure you use a 10% bleach solution to soak it in first or cook it in the oven at no less than 425 degrees.

good but not best. You should get you a nice looking piece of drift wood clean it very well with soap and water. and a little bleach . Let dry very well. By placeing your snake in some water and let stay there for about 30 mins .Clear water that is. no soap. Next if you see any ticks pick off or rub visoline on it and it will fall off. The next time is shades it will be beatiful.
