While this classic tale of a trio of goats has been well told over the years, narrator Holly Hunter sets this Rabbit Ears rendition apart from the rest. With folksy exuberance, Hunter brings the story alive, especially when describing the "terrifying troll with eyes like burning coals and a nose like an old acorn squash." When the three billy goats challenge a troll's thunderous threats in order to cross his bridge for a feast of clover grass, it's a story of brains over brawn, wits triumphing over wickedness. The video's second story is complementary to the first: 'Tis the saga of three pigs who contend with yet another villainous creature. Young viewers quickly learn that when a hungry wolf is huffing and puffing at your doorstep, a house made of bricks is a better choice than one built of straw or sticks. Better still is the tale's subtle message that wits and wisdom can outsmart even the fiercest of foes. Both 15-minute tales incorporate David Jorgensen's beautiful, hand-drawn illustrations, which are unfolded one by one in true storybook fashion. Original jazz arrangements by Art Lande add a sophisticated touch, making this a flick that will appeal to adults as well as kids. (Ages 4 and older)

Customer Review: Goats breeding with pigs is not a pretty sight
My name is Jim Bob and I growed up on a farm. My Pappy used to say that if you grew up on a farm nothing would ever surprise you about sex. Well I'm here to tell you that this movie made him out to be a liar. I was surprised as H E double L to learn about some of the modern breeding methods. For sure I'd of never thought the pigs would dim the lights in the barn, and set up a mattress with silk sheets, not to mention the bottle of wine to loosen up the goats. On the other hand, the special effects were great! I'll never figure out how Disney studios made the 12 tiny cartoon monkeys with wings fly out of the pig's butt to perform the secret mating song. It sure looked like the real thing to me. I still don't understand why the skunk vomit and buffalo grease was needed though. After seeing all this me and my sister Sally Sue snuck some of Pappy's Vee-agra medicine out to the barn and fed it to Billy (our pet goat). Well let me tell you this was a bad idea. Poor Billy started making real strange noises and running around in circles backwards. His private parts got really big and stayed that way for nigh onto a week and he couldn't go potty either. Mammy says me and Sally done a serious crime against nature and gotta get a beating. As long as she doesn't get out the leather harness and 10 gauge electrodes I think we'll be OK. Please pray for us just in case... oh and think twice about seeing this movie.
Customer Review: If your kids are fans of either fairytale, get this video
Last summer my boys visited with grandma and we checked out this video from the library. From the start they loved it. Holly Hunter did a super job narrating the stories in different voices for each character. The Billy Goats Gruff story is pretty straight forward, The Three Little Pigs has some funny lines in it and the end has a twist to it. My boys loved watching this video and so I have been on the hunt for it ever since. Glad I finally found it.
