Default how to care for a rabbit's ears?

i noticed that my rabbits has been scratching the back of her neck alot and loosing hair on the back of her head. I couldn't figure out why. I looked in her ears today and they're filthy!!! She has scratched so much so has dried blood and dry flakes of skin in her ears. How would I treat it if I can't afford a vet?

Is your rabbit an outdoor pet or do you take her outside? She may have earmites and the only way to clear that up is with medication from a vet. If you live close to the SPCA, they may be able to help you if you can't afford the vet fee. Earmites will not go away on their own and will make your pet sick so get it looked after right away.

Her ears aren't dirty -- the nasty black crap is ear mites. You can treat it with Ivermectin (injectable or oral), or ask your vet for a miticide. Also, once the area has been cleaned, put a little mineral oil in the rabbit's ears. It'll shake its head right away -- that's good because it keeps the oil from getting too deep. Talk to your vet for specific directions/miticides.
