Unhappy Pug's toe nails

My pug, Kevin, 2 yrs. old, refuses to let me clip his nails. He gets very vicious with me and hides. So I have to take him to the vet once a month just to get his nails clipped and what a show! They have to put a space helmet on him to do it so that he does not bite the Dr. He screams and yelps as if he's being tortured. This costs me $30.00 each time I take him in. Is this just a "pug thing", will he ever grow out of it so I can do it at home? Please help. He is such a lovable, sweet boy except when it comes to his toe nails. ldkisinger (Lolly)
