Default What health tests/ screenings do horses undergo?

When breeding a horse, what health considerations should i know about? what tests should be done? what are common things to look for?

Make sure the mare is in good sound health. And make sure the Stallion/Stud is also.Make sure your mare is upto date on shots also.If it's not your Stud make sure you have a contract & thatthere is a live foal Guarantee.Good luck with the breeding & new foal.My Gray Mare just had her foal (Filly) May 7, 2007.She was breed to a homozygous to the tobiano gene Paint.

Check for any hereditary dieseases, any conditions and any common problems with her. Make sure she is OK to breed, that she isn't too old and make sure she is healthy enough-- Get coggins tests done and make sure you are regularly worming her so she isn't pregnant and with worms! Make sure she is up to date on her vaccinations and vet check her before you breed her!Make sure you get the stallion vet checked too and that he doesn't have any infections-- make sure you always get a coggins test and check his health history!!! GOOD LUCK!
