Customer Review: Great music and getting better!
I first discovered Barry Melton in the live concert section of Internet Archive, www.archive.org; on the home page go to live music archive, browse bands with mp3/ogg formats then find Barry Melton Band in the list, then click on the concert & year and download it in sum or one song at time. He's posted live performances free to download, and for anyone who wishes to hear a good cross section of what he and his band does this is the place to check it out....most likely you'll be back here to buy this and his other released CD's. A little tid-bit to pique your interest, the song 'Colorado Town' on this CD is censored...the live performance at Archive.org is not. Anyway, after hearing the band's live performances I sought out and purchased every available CD released by Melton for my personal collection.
Customer Review: Oh, what a time it was!
In the late 80's, one or two nights a month at the Saloon, "Fish and Chips," i.e., Barry Melton and John Cipollina, used a two guitar vehicle (with a worthy supporting cast)to take a San Francisco bar crowd back to the mythical 60's. On those cuts on this CD when Cipollina is around, this is just magical music. Cipolina brought out something special in Barry and it doesn't appear that Barry truly recovered from John C.'s death. We can't go back, but it is great to have this CD to offer a tasty hint of that blues/rock mysticism that these "dinosaurs" knocked out for a $5 cover in the heart of North Beach. If you were ever interested in the SF sound, you've got to get this CD.
