In Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, a breezy take on writer-director Shane Black's trademark buddy action/comedy oeuvre, a petty thief (Robert Downey Jr.) is brought to Los Angeles for an unlikely audition and finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation, along with his high school dream girl (Michelle Monaghan) and a detective (Val Kilmer) who has been training him for his upcoming role.

Customer Review: An exceptionally bad movie
This movie features trashy, unlikeable characters, juvenile jokes, sophomoric dialog, lots of t&a, an unbelievable plotline and little else. It is one of those movies where you keep checking your watch and wondering when it will be over. A waste of the talents of Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. I will agree with another reviewer who said the cinematography was good. Director of cinematography: Michael Barrett.
Customer Review: Damn Fine Cinema
Not many movies today have been expertly written in recent years, concentrating on showy explosions with 3rd-grader childish dialogue. Not so with KISS KISS BANG BANG. An interesting movie taking a simple movie cliche of mixed identity, combined with a detective mystery straight out of a pulp novel, the best part of the movie is the dialogue between the characters Harry (Robert Downey, Jr.) and "Gay" Perry (Val Kilmer, is one of his most memorable roles to date). Plus the narration of Downey through out the piece is nothing but hilarious, especially when it digs into said Hollywood cliches (there's even a good dig at Return of the King that made me laugh). If you need a thinking-man's action/mystery movie, then this is perfect for you on any night.
