Default Berkley Portable Line Spooling Station

Features: Easy to use, transport, and store. Sets up quickly and is easy to operate. Accommodates spinning, baitcasting, and fly reels. Comes complete with line stripper and built-in cutte.
Customer Review: Strips and loads fishing spools
Overall, I think this is a good product that does just what it promises...helps you to easily spool line onto your fishing reels under the appropriate tension. This will keep your line tight on the reel, maximizing the amount of line it can hold and preventing line from digging into the spool under the load of a fish. I would point out that the instructions attached to the bottom of the unit are lacking when it comes to spinning reels and do not mention or illustrate that you can (and should) rotate the spool holder bracket 90 degrees so that your spool is facing sideways to your reel. You also should flip the spool of line on the bracket if it looks like the line is coming off twisted instead of loading smoothly. Most good fishing lines come with instructions that explain this process that is specific to spinning reels. The battery-powered line stripper has worked fine for me on heavier trolling line (30-50lb.), but I haven't used it on thinner lines yet. The instructions and product descriptions do not mention it, but on my model, the line stripper also has a revolving sharpening stone protruding from the end for honing hooks--a nice added bonus! This exact stripper is sold separately on Amazon.com under the name "Berkley Pocket Line Stripper/Hook Honer"--look it up for a closeup photo and more details. The package I received came with two spare orange rubber wheels for the line stripper, but it also came with two black rubber grommets on the spooling bracket that are not depicted or used anywhere in the instructions, illustrations, or on this unit...and they have to be removed to insert the bracket into the base. Not sure what's up with that. Lastly, everything breaks down and stores together so it can be hung on a wall until needed. Set up takes only seconds.

I understand the bracket needs to be turnd 90 degrees for a spinning reel but how do you keep tension on the line?
