Bettas. They are extremely hard to kill so they are good for ALL ages. A girl at my school keeps a small tank with a beta in her locker at school and it hasn't had anything happen to it.

A betta fish is easy. Put it in a bowl, feed it twice a day. Every so often wash the bowl. Less than the least complicated fish, it's more like the most complicated plant. Now, if you really want more than one, I'd suggest a normal goldfish. They poop more and make a mess faster, but other than needing to wash to bowl more often they aren't harder.

Goldfish are easy to care for, I think, especially if she wants more than one... And they're not like bettas or guppies; they won't kill each other or eat their offspring. But if she'll be happy with only one, then get her a betta. You really only need to change their water maybe once a week (not even that often, really), you only have to feed them every other day, and they come in really great colors. Let her pick out which one she wants.

A gold fish that just needs a bowl. The more fish you have, the bigger the bowl is needed. And possibly a tank w/air filter. One loan gold fish in a decent sized bowl, you just need to feed & change the water weekly.

goldfish are definetly the easiest. a lot of other fish need a variety of foods need a variety of food to keep healthy, but goldfish on the other hand only need 2 food pellets in the morning and night.

Betas. I had a few that lived for about six (yes 6) years. I often forgot to feed them. I was horrible about changing their water. Even worse about cleaning the tank. They lived with a outbreak of snails for a long time. We even moved houses and brought them.I'd have to say, buy your neice Betas.

Like a few people have said, Betta, i've had one betta fish. It lived in a tank, no filters, just needed food, a tank with water, those pebbles and maybe a few plants here and there. It lived for a long time. And plus, Bettas come in so many pretty colors.
