get stones that absorb the crap of the fish and don't over feed your Betta it will make your tank dirtier faster and don't clean it too often they like it alittle dirty.

Hello,If the stones aren't attached to the bottom of your aquarium, then net the betta, place it in other small container (1 quart or even 1 pint will suffice for temporary holding place) --> wash some of the stones (don't wash all stones...leave some beneficial bacteria)then place the fish back. Don't forget to use dechlorinated water. For the water to be clean...feed small amount of food that consumed in 5 mins, 1-2x/ day. And frequent water change. I used to change my betta water every other day. Aged tap water, mineral water, all fine except distilled water.Hope that helps.

the Betta is an anabantid, meaning that it can breath air. therefore the water quality does not have to be the best. these fish can survive and thrive in a goldfish bowl, a sprig of 'lucky' bamboo or other plants, will help to keep the water quality better. Tulips are not recommended from personal experience. plants are not necessary though. A 20% water change weekly is recommended, though two weeks will be tolerated by most Betta's. try not to overfeed, this will just make the water quality deteriorate faster. there also are sold pond-weed that can tolerate the unheated conditions of a Betta bowl.hope this helps. good luck.

you should only take 25% of water out,'cause if you take too much out your betta will go in shock and die.

Get a bigger tank but if you want to clean this one I have the perfect thing. I used to have a fish and if you go to petsmart there is this suction thing that you can buy that sucks dirty water out and you can put clean water in.

Do not over feed, and if you can just dip out 1/2 the water 1 time a week. Do not dump the whole jar. Beta's do fine in a small jar but place a mirror behind it. This keeps them more active and makes them think they have another in the area. That gives him interest and exercise. Feed Total Wardley Beta Food or Freeze Dried Tubifex and Blood Worms.
