What sort of aquarium do you have it in? The smallest I recommend for pet quality bettas is one gallon. This is what I house my bettas in.As for food, bettas much prefer pellets over flakes, but prefer bloodworms over both. I feed my bettas HBH Betta Bites 3 days of the week and Tetra freeze dried bloodworms 3 days of the week. You should skip atleast one day of the week to allow their digestive systems to rest.As far as products go, I would keep a bottle of Melafix handy. It's made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, and comes in a blue bottle. You can't miss it, it's sold at any Petco. This comes in handy for any random illnesses that might crop up due to an unexpected change in water conditions, such as fin and tail rot. Also, I would purchase some *AQUARIUM* salt, NOT table salt. I recommend the salt made by Dr. Wellfish, and it comes in a milk carton. All you have to do is some simple math to determine the right dosage for your size of aquarium. For cleaning out your tank, a simple hand rag will do.

bettas are fighting fish first of all and you'll need betta pellets not flakes bettas like tough crunchy food. They also like blood worms but limit those. A filter is not required but it is a good additive. Tank size can be any where from 2-2000 gal. Bettas like drift wood and rice stalks to play with. No need for chemicals.ALSO THEY HATE OTHER FISH I had a betta with a ghost fish and it attacked!

First of all other are right that your fish, a Betta splendens, is called a Fighting fish. You are right that it's not a fighter, well, except for with other males and then it's really about territory battles. How to care for one really depends as much on the container you keep it in as much as the fish. If you will add that information we can tell you the proper can for a betta in that container. That said the best and easiest thing to do it keep your betta in a 2.5-5 gallon tank with a filter and heater. Decorate however you like, that's not very important to the fish. As for products, really all you basically need is dechlorinator, food, a thermometer, a bucket and gravel cleaning siphon for water changes and perhaps a clean rag to wipe the glass clean. Occasionally you will also need a replacement cartridge for the filter, about once a month.Once a week you will change about 1/4 of the water by siphoning out the old water while cleaning your gravel with the siphon hose. Replace tht water with dechlorinated tap water of a temerature very similar to the tank. wipe off the glass or decor if needed and your done.Feeding: I like to feed my fish twice a day. Once in the morning with a flake or pelleted food and once in the evening with frozen or live foods. Bettas especially enjoy brine shrimp and bloodworms. Not hard at all. Bettas are a quite easy fish to care for if you invest in the proper equipment up front.MM
