Default Canine Reproduction: The Breeder's Guide

This is the definitive guide to breeding, whelping and raising puppies, now completely updated. Expert topics include: canine reproductive anatomy, understanding hormones, breeding behavior and management, caring for the pregnant bitch, whelping, pediatric care of newborns, resolving reproductive problems
Customer Review: Very helpful and informative book
This is an excellent book for the serious informed breeder. It is very detailed and technical. It covers everything you need to know about the dogs anatomy, heat cycle, physiology, breeding, pregnancy, paturation and care of the pups. It has the detail I couldn't find in other books, but is still easy to read and understand.
Customer Review: For Breeders Only with Advanced Training
This book is extremely technical. You almost need to be a vet to understand it. I would recomend The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies by Muriel Lee. It is reader friendly and gives the same information with many picture examples.

Great book suggestion! It is well recognized and recommended. I also have numerous articles relating to dog whelping, breeding your dog, raising puppies, weaning, and more. I've also built a nifty Dog Pregnancy Calculator that has you type in the first day your dog was bred and returns a range of dates for whelping. I hope this is useful. As always, though we profoundly recommend that you spay/neuter your dog as any responsible owner would do. Ethical breeding programs are expensive and time-consuming when done correctly.
