It depends. Some breeds need more exercise than others and your dog's age would certainly be a factor. I'd suggest finding a book or doing a web search on your specific breed.

Some dogs just don't need alot of activity to stay healthy. If you walk him at least once a day and play with him. (so he has to at least run around a bit).. then everything should be fine. Still.. if he just lays around most of the time, it could just seem that he is good health. Take him to the vet and have him get looked over. It could just be that he's a lazy dog ^_^.. but you would want to make sure.

I would not think so, but ask your vet.

Don't worry about it, especially if your vet gives your dog a clean bill of health. At 3 years old, a dog is already an adult, and doesn't have the puppyish energy. As long as your dog isn't sluggish, it's just his personality.Akitas and chows are not that active by nature. They're great guard dogs and CAN be active when required, but they're more watchful. I know, because I have a Shiba -- closely related to an Akita -- and he's not very active but in great health! And he's only 1.5 years old. He spends about 22 hours of the day sleeping or watching the door for visitors, another hour begging us for food, and a total of an hour on walks, playing fetch or walking around our place. No worries!
