Default Emergency care for a very sick dog.?

Yes, this question is prompted by the question "Help.....Intestinal blockage in dog......?"Would any of you hesitate to take your to the emergency vet? How many of you would "put the dog down" or would you pay the $3000.00 bill? Do any of you carry dog medical insurence on your dog? Do do you think is is really worth it? I don't think it is as for all the years I have had only one emergency. The once a year check up and shots seems to be fine.I asked this question based on another question asked by someone else. There was no dought for me to pay the $3000.00 for my Pitt Bull when she had to have the surgery. I am so happy to see that most of you dog people would pay what ever it takes to take care of your pups. And I agree with you on the dogs age should be taken into consideration.

I would pay the bill. I care about my dogs more than life itself.

Call the ASPCA or SPCA in your city and ask if they have hospital where you can take your dog for treatment. Typically those hospitals in larger cities, but, you did not say where you live in the USA.

This is an emergency. Would you consider putting your spouse or child down? Pets are family members and should be treated as such.

Intestinal blockage in a dog is very serious and needs attention ASAP. I would definitely head to the emergency vet. This can't wait until Monday. As for 3K, yes, i would do it; however, if the dog is very old, recovery from the surgery will be rough and it may be more humane to put the dog down. If this is the only emergency you have ever had, you should consider yourself lucky. Everything comes with a price, including having your dog around with you unfortunately. Good luck with a hard decision...and no, i don't have pet insurance.

yes it is worth it. a dog is worth more than money to me, they are like children. you don't just stay away from healthcare b/c you are scared of bill. call any vet in your phonebook and they normally have an asnwering service who can provide a 24 hr vet.

I would pay it. See if you can make payments. Some hospitals will allow it. I almost died from an intestinal blockage. I was given several cc's of Dilautid (a synthetic triple-strength morphine) every couple of hours and it barely cut the pain. Please for the love of your dog, do something for him. He has been there for you as your patient best friend whenever you were sick or sad. Now it is your turn to take care of him.

You want your dog to suffer? It should be like a part of your family... If you don't want to pay for vet bills then don't have a dog. They are a huge responsibility & you should think about that before you bought it. I have a savings account fot pet emergancies... not a lot. just put away $10 a week into an account so you are prepared for stuff like this. how would you feel if you were sick and noone cared to fix you?
