Default 12-year-old dog not eating, but still seems to have appetite

hello,

i have a 12-year-old black lab/cocker spaniel mix. he's always been a picky eater, but lately he refuses to eat just about everything and is starting to lose some weight. we can't figure out what the problem might be ... he still begs for table food at every meal so it doesn't seem like the problem is really a loss of appetite. he just refuses to eat, except for occasionally he'll have some ground beef. we've tried everything else we can think of and needless to say are very worried.

as for other behaviors ... he is a little more tired (which makes sense considering the lack of food), but still goes for a run every day and doesn't seem overly depressed. he still greets us at the door with his tail wagging whenever we come home and has no problem jumping up and down from furniture.

any ideas?
