Customer Review: Zodiac Flea Spot On Almost Killed My Cat!
There is no such thing as a 0 star rating, or I would have given it that! PLEASE don't use this product for your cat (or dog). I discovered my cat had fleas one night and purchased this product from a reputable pet store, PetsMart. I wanted to purchase Advantage or Frontline as I'd had success with these flea products in the past. However, they require a prescription from a veterinarian and it was after hours, therefore I was unable to purchase either one. I felt sorry for my poor cat and wanted to buy a treatment that night so she wouldn't be so uncomfortable. PetsMart recommeded this Zodiac treatment, told me it was the same active ingredient as Advantage or Frontline, just not as strong. So, I treated my cat with it. She became very ill: had ataxia (an unsteady gait), was falling down, her ears were flicking... I took her to the vet who told me she had Pyrethrin poisoning from the Zodiac. She had to be hooked up to an IV, washed 3 times with Ivory soap and treated for 24 hours in the animal hospital. She was sick for days (still has traces of ataxia). I thought she would surely die. The veterinarian told me this is not an isolated incident, she sees it often. She said Zodiac just prays on people and she wishes it would be taken off the shelf. She also said pyrethrin is NOT the same ingredient as Frontline or Advantage, that's why Zodiac is so harmful. I thought I might be able to save some money using this product. $400 later I sit with a cat who is still not herself. PLEASE don't use this product. I intend on pursuing this with the company and want all pet owners to know they're playing with fire by using it.
