Default How do you care for an eye infection for a cat?

Does anyone have any home remedies that might clear it up?Its not that I am irresponsible, she is a stray who showed up and I would like to help her. I am a student with three children. Money is very tight and if I can't help her on my own she will end up at the pound and likely be killed. She's a very sweet cat and our neighborhood is full of strays or I would ask a neighbor to take her. Please suggestions, I hate to see her end up at the pound.

home remedies chances are won't clear it, take the cat to the vet and if the vet's advice does not help take him to a animal clinic/hospital. good luck and hope your cat will be okay!

NO.Infection needs antibiotics. We are talking EYE here. Would you like someone to put some foreign substance in YOUR eye and potentially cause blindness just to save a few bucks on the doctor?Be a responsible pet owner and take your pet to a VET, not a bunch of people on the internet who have too much time on their hands.

you must find out the cause of the infection...from the vet. sometimes a steroid will work, like hydrocortisone that you get over the counter, but you must first find out the cause because if it is a scratch on her eye, the hydrocortisone would be a very bad idea...

That happened to my cat once. The vet will give you eye drops to put in the cat's eye once or twice a day, and anti-biotic pills to stick in its mouth. Good luck administering the pills - hope your cat doesn't have sharp teeth!

That's a tough one, considering your additional information. Unfortunately, there are many reasons for runny eyes - likely to be pink eye, or just a cold. Cats can fight those two things off on their own, it will just take a lot longer, and may risk infecting all of the strays in the neighborhood. Certainly don't put anything in her eyes that is not a Dr. prescribed antibiotic. Does your community have a no-kill shelter you could take her to? Or, ask around for someone at your school or work that may be looking for a new fuzzy member of thier household. If the cat is a specific breed (for example - siamese) then you may be able to find a rescue organization for it (I know the siamese rescue organization takes in Siamese kitties off the street).
