Default Does spaying/neutring a cat affect its mental health? Does it go crazy

because it can't get any? Could it make the cat more aggressive?

The opposite is true. Neutered animals usually become more passive and less aggressive.

Spaying and neutering takes away the urge to want to "get any" as well as the ability to do it.

No, it will not make a cat more aggressive. If anything, it will stop aggressiveness. Spaying/neutering removes the hormones responsible for the mating drive. Without those hormones, they will no longer be interested in mating. They are not like humans, who can continue to have sex even without their reproductive organs. That is because cats do not have sex for pleasure - only humans, some other primates, and I believe dolphins, do that.Neutered male cats are often prized as being mellow, affectionate, and lovable cats.

Actually, NOT having your animal spayed or neutered can make them more aggressive.. because of sexual tension and what-not.Getting them fixed can calm them down... not to mention it decreases their chances of running away to look for a mate.

Cats who aren't spayed or neutered are overwhelmed by sexual frustration and display this with territorial behaviors, aggression, roaming, urine spraying, mounting, humping, calling, and presenting. Not to mention that it puts them at risk of developing testicular, prostate, uterine, ovarian, and breast cancers and other illnesses that shorten their lifespan.Spaying also stops the heat or Estrus cycle in the female (like a human Period), and stops adding to the pet overpopulation problem... more cat and dog deaths are caused each year with unwanted kittens and puppies than all the viruses together. Overpopulation leads to euthanasia in shelters, starvation, hypothermia, and neglect. It is a myth that it makes the animal more aggressive or that it alters their personality. Spaying and neutering removes the glands responsible for causing the hormonal drive which causes most aggression. It physically can not re-create their personality. It only removes the overwhelming sex drive which leads to frustration.-RVT(Registered Veterinary Technician and cat owner)

It depends on the animal how they will react. Conventional wisdom is they will calm down and become less aggressive, however, I have a male cat that after being neutered did not slow down a bit. Even after a year and half he still acts like a kitten, running around like crazy and pouncing on the female older cat we have. He does not try to engage in any sexual activity though, just general wrestling.

Nooooooo...quite the opposite! It makes them a lot more mentally stable. Spayed females don't have the hormonal up & down of being in heat, so they won't yowl or get as restless as an intact female. Female cats in heat are very hard to deal with-they can act pretty crazy. Same goes with toms: an intact male is more likely to spray, be aggressive, call, and roam than an altered male. Neutered males tend to be quite sweet and stable, almost more so than females.

Neither one of my female cats in my home is fixed but my boyfriend is taking his cat in to be fixed. I don't have the heart to do that to my kitty though. The way I see it is if I wouldn't want someone doing it to me without my consent then I'm not going to do it to my cat..with the exception that they are rarely allowed outside. Only because my kitty is so tiny I don't want her having kittens. She hasn't tried running away yet and I've had her 5& a 1/2 yrs.
