Animal Shelter Kitten Ill
I volunteer at a local animal shelter and we brought in a stray kitten that is sick. There is a Euth. card on her kennel that was placed there because she wasn't eating the dry or wet food put down. I got her to start eating by giving her fancy feast cat food that had more syrup in it than the other wet food. The kitten seemed lethargic at first but now we're noticing blood in the litter box and green poop in the litter box. I'm not sure if this is a result of switching the food but I doubt it since blood is involved. The kitten lays down in the kennel and is not very active unless provoked, even outside of the kennel. I've been searching the web and found that the green is an indicator of an infection. The kitten is one month old and the shelter won't take it to the vet. I'm not sure when kittens start cleaning themselves but other 2 month old kittens are and this one doesn't. I'm not sure if that's a symptom of an infection. I'd like to know if there is something to try before they completely give up hope and have to put it down. Could the infection be because of the kittens lack of eating for about 3 days, or was it maybe something it got from it's mom or sometime in between finding it and it's birth? I'm not sure if there can be anything done since it won't be taken to the vet, I just wanted to try and find out first...
