13 year old cat having breathing problems
A few weeks ago my 13 yr old male cat (otherwise very healthy) began to have episodes of labored breathing. Tonight it started about 5 hours ago and continues. When these episodes happen they move his entire body and vary in intensity. He can't seem to get comfortable always laying down then sitting up so exhausted that he falls asleep while sitting. His appetite and personality are the same as normal. Any ideas on what this could be? My husband thinks asthma but I've never heard of an episode lasting this long. I think it might be Congestive heart failure- hope I'm wrong!! Please help!!!! ---------------
Well I ended up taking my cat Tigger to the vet on Saturday. Both my husband and I were wrong. Tigger had blood in his chest and abdominal cavities. The vet suspected he had either heart failure on the left side and just recently on the right due to the amount and location of the blood or that he had cancer. She advised us that he was dying and to end his suffering. Tigger was euthanized on Saturday afternoon. He is loved and missed very much. I am heart broken I thought he we would be home right now and I'd be nursing him back to health. To all animal lovers: Don't take the time you have with your furry babies for granted before you know it they are gone, treat every day like its their last. Love them, hug them, kiss them.
