Default Will a Mother Bird Take Care of an Orphan?

A bird built a nest in a basket at our front door. She has 3 eggs in the nest. Earlier, I found an abandoned egg on the ground on our back patio. I'm wondering if I put the abandoned egg in the nest in front, will the mother take care of it even though it's not hers?
