I know everyone says to leave it be and the mother will come back for it or to put it back in the nest, but it was lying on the sidewalk where people walk through all the time and there was no nest to be seen. It looks like it was just born, its eyes are not open yet and it has no feathers. How should I take care of it?

You really shouldn't keep a baby bird. I personally think that yo should put it back into the wild. You may be scaring it.
