Default I found a baby bird that fell out of a tree and into my fire pit, what can i do to

take care of it? i found it this morning, its not that old its just a baby that fells out of its nest. i can't tell what kind it is. but i know it isn't a crow or sparrow. i have it in a big box right now. how or what should i do to take care of it as far as food, water, ect. goes? should i just throw it back out or what? can it grow up as a pet bird even though it is wild?

If you haven't touched it yet, try to find the nest and put it back in with gloves. If you have, bring it into an animal center and see what they want to do with it. They might raise it in captivity or raise it then release it. It is still a wild animal and you don't know if it ha any diseases.

Its is okay to touch the bird, birds have a terrible sense of smell and the parents will not abandon it if you touch it. Put it in a nearby bush or tree close to where you found him and the parents will find it and continue to care for it!In the event that this is not possible, call your local vet or animal shelter and ask them to refer you to a wildlife rehabber in your area. Unfortunatly you cannot take care of it without special training because you cant meet its nutritional and developmental needs. Send it to a rehabber asap in this case.

If you can find the nest, put it back. Do not feed it. That is the worse thing to do. It is an old wives tail that the momma bird will not care for it is you touch it. If you know about where it's nest is and you can't climb up to it, put the baby under a laundry basket in the yard. Put a a rock or something on the top so cats can not move the basket. The holes in the laundry basket should be big enough for the momma to get through. Keep an eye on it for several days. Or you can also put is under some bushes but cats can get to it then. There are some wild animal sanctuaries you might be able to take it to. Look in the phone book. Feeding birds is not a good thing, It maybe hurt.

Feed it to your cat, you must feed it to a predator, the natural course of nature requires the death of that creature. If there are no predators in your neighborhood you must become a predator yourself.

I had this happen today too! There were two little fledglings on the ground - they couldn't fly quite yet - my dog found them. I didn't know if they were sick or what - I put rubber gloves on and put them in a makeshift nest (because I couldn't find their original nest). Before I put the makeshift nest somewhere safe, I sat it on the ground where I found the birds originally and watched to see if the mama bird would find them. She did! So I picked up the nest and put it in a nearby bush. The mama found them and has been feeding them all day. The are in a place where cats can't reach them and I'm hoping they will be okay.Did they have feathers? If they had full feathers, but can't fly yet, they say it's only a few days or so until they will fly away - as long as the mama bird can feed them.Good luck!
