Default Help! Seriously confused lovebird. 5 years old.

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I have had a peachfaced lovebird for 5 years now who happens to be a little odd in the head. His name is Fester. I joined this forum because I cannot find ANYTHING anywhere about the odd symptoms he has been exhibiting for all the years I've had him.

the first thing that concerns me is his "humping" of anything soft outside of his cage or in. He litterally does hump it to look for some sort of entry way. And also it lasts for at least 5 minutes. He does this all day everday and the craving increases every year.

Another thing is that he regurgitates his bird seed on thing/object that is soft that he is humping in his cage. I am aware that birds do this when they find a mate and feed them, but he does this ALL the time and it is all over the bars of the cage, and this soft bird tent that I got him. I have to buy him a new tent every two weeks to keep him from getting sick from all the encrusted yack all over it.
His feather's around his face are starting to dissolve because of his throwing up. I had to buy him so liquid vitamins just to make sure he's getting some value in his diet everyday.

My dad got him from a pet store in Brooklyn and got him for half off because all the other birds kept trying to beat him up. I'm not surprised, he really does have a problem.

He is a really smart bird surprisingly and he is curious about everything around him, he never bites and loves kisses on his neck and kindly surrender's himself to all the love you give him.

Any clue as in to what I should do about him, how much longer he'll live, why he has these sexual confusions and should I take him to the vet to have him examined, would be very much appreciated. thanks SO MUCH to whoever takes the time to read my message

-Alyssa

Default confused lovebird response

Hi Alyssa,

It sounds lilke your little lovebird needs a mate. Even though we try to spend time with our birds, they do need some bird company! Another thong that might work...try making sure he gets enugh sleep. Birds usually need 10 hours of sleep in order to feel less in the mood for mating. Hope this helped....Luisa
