I used to own a python. You can feed them live or dead mice, its your choice though live is much more entertaining because you actually get to see it strike and constrict the mouse. Never leave a live mouse inside the cage with an unhungry snake or it will hurt the snake believe it or not. We made the mistake of doing that and found the aquarium covered with blood the next morning though the snake was still alive. Don't let the snake out unsupervised or they will find some dark warm corner to hide in and be hard to find or extract. Other than that, they are very low maintenance.
