I used to have a 55 gallon tank and a LOT of fish in it. I would say that you shouldn't over do the amount because fish aren't used to the chemicals. The recommended is most likely the best way to go, so that way you won't have to worry about hurting your fish. Plus, Its usually a good i dea to go by the directions.
