All about Hamsters
Most people research about animals before they buy them since knowing things about your future pets prevents problems. Hamsters are definitely cute and cuddly creatures that are easy to take care of but all hamster owners should know a few things about hamsters. This article will elaborate on a few things that will help you understand your current or future pet hamster better.

A healthy hamster is indeed a happy hamster and in order to stay healthy, there are a few things you need to know about hamsters. These furry little critters require exercise. There are various ways you can exercise your hamster but the easiest way is to add toys to your pet hamster’s cage. Helpful exercise toys include the wheel, ladders and lofts. Wooden toys can be used and they are recommended since they are safe. Plastic toys should be avoided unless you know for sure that they are made of safe materials. Hideouts make excellent napping places for your hamster and they add a little bit of excitement to the cage. Tunnels and tubes are considered a must for all hamster cages since hamsters love these accessories.

Many people think that hamsters feel lonely and this is partially true. Hamsters do feel lonely if their owner does not spend much time with them. If you do not have too much time to spare then you should get your hamster a friend. When getting your pet hamster a cage mate you should remember that Syrian hamsters do not do well with cage mates. You should also remember that all other varieties of hamsters can stay in small groups provided the group is of same sex individuals of the same variety. If you do plan to buy another hamster then you should slowly introduce the new hamster to the old one to ensure that they get along. If you are planning to get two hamsters as your first pets then you should pick out young individuals. As a general rule older hamsters do not mingle with other hamsters.

The expected lifespan for most hamsters is 3 years but depending on the conditions they are kept in they can live for a few months lesser or more. The best way to ensure that your hamster stays with you for a long time is to give him nutritious food, keep his cage clean, use safe bedding and exercise him. A varied diet is often considered as a nutritious diet but while picking out food for your hamster you should remember that the base diet should consist of vegetables. In order to add fiber to your hamster diet you can either give him leafy vegetables or you can give him small amounts of timothy hay. Always remember to give your hamster plenty of fresh water since hamsters get dehydrated fast if they do not get water.

You should learn as much as can about hamsters before you buy one or a few. They depend on you to care for them and provide them with a happy and fulfilling life.
