What Kind of Poliurathan Can I Use That Is Safe for Reptiles?

by Pet Health on March 17, 2010

I want to build a habitate for my Medaterainean Day Gecko. I want to add some real wood to he tank and need it to be water proof. I will be adding a few other reptiles to her tank and want it to be completely safe for them.

I would get some wood that looks real at the local pet shop. If that is not an option, make sure it is completly dead and that it is not pine or cedar. I know those are toxic to reptiles. Good luck…xxxxturtlegirl

Why does it need to be THAT waterprrof?

You can use polyurethane, as long as it is TOTALLY dry and cured before putting it in the tank- I’d let it air cure several days before using it. Water-based poly would be even safer.

any type of polyurethane would be okay as long as your gecko isn’t chewing on it.
