What Exotic Fish Can Be Put in a Small Bowl?

by Pet Health on June 9, 2010

I have a fish that has been living for 5 years and it came from a fair.(yeah, I know, crazy) I figure she is going to kick the bucket soon and I would like an exotic fish next. The problem is, I have a ridiculously small fish bowl. I would like I list of fish that are really pretty, vibrent and they can live in a small habitat. Help?

honestly hun there arent any…you can put ANY fish in a small bowl but it will not be happy & will most likely die
pretty much ALL fish except goldfish NEED a heater(which will not fit on a small bowl) & they NEED a lot of aeration(air)…..they will not thrive in a bowl for sure

fyi: just a little tip too, usually the more “exotic” the fish the more care, time & expense it takes to care for and House it properly

umm..I don’t think you could put ANY fish in a bowl, especially if they’re exotic. Maybe try a few tetras? But I don’t think they’ll survive very long….

far to small to put any fish in!!! if you want exotic fish it will cost big $$ i know have a 1000l marine setup and it costs tens of thousands for a good setup

No fish deserves to live in a small bowl.

If you want to keep the bowl I agree with the plastic fish, would also add some plastic plants for that special effect.

Seriously though, consider up-sizing the tank before selecting new fish.

That fair Goldfish you have SHOULD reach more than a foot in length and live more than 15 years, but because you kept it in a tiny, unfiltered bowl, it will die very young at only a few inches. Almost all Goldfish are totally unsuitable for bowls, or anything less than a 20 gallon tank, but I have found the one group that do quite nicely… of this group, there is even a VERY colorful variant… The link below will provide you all the info you need… Simply clean the bowl weekly to prevent mold…

the only exotic fish that can successfully live in a small habitat is the siamese fighting fish, aka a betta.
